Mary Hiers Honored

Claxton parent Mary Hiers-Skelton will be featured as WLOS News 13's Person of the Week on Friday's 6:00 news.

Mary leads the Claxton Diggers, a group of volunteers who have been making great progress over the past several years improving our grounds and making the outdoor space at Claxton more appealing, more usable and more educational. Her hard work has resulted in an improved and expanded K-1 playground, the installation of gardens around the grounds, the repair and relocation of the Deborah Sizemore Sound Garden installation, and the beginnings of a natural noise barrier along the Merrimon Avenue side of the school.

If you're not already familiar with all that Mary, the Claxton Diggers and our Grounds Committee are doing, check out the Grounds page to find out how you can get involved!

Congratulations Mary!

Your work serves as a great example of what a dedicated volunteer can accomplish on behalf of our school and our students. We invite everyone to tune in as Mary is celebrated for her contributions to the Claxton community. The story will air at 6:00 on Friday on WLOS News 13.

Pisgah View Family -- May 21st!

Our last
Pisgah View Apartments' Family Night
of the school year is scheduled for next
Monday, May 21.

If you would like to help, please plan to be there around 5:45p.m. to help with set-up. Dinner will be served from 6:00-6:30, and includes an ice cream sundae bar.
Afterwards, volunteers help with cleanup and supervision, while Claxton staff provide academic games for the children from 6:30-7:30p.m.

The event is held in the Pisgah View community center and directions are as follows:
Take I-240 West to Haywood Road-West Asheville exit. Turn left onto Haywood Road. Take the first right at the light, just across the bridge onto Hanover Street. Go all the way down Hanover to the light at State Street. Cross State Street and continue up Hanover. At the stop sign continue straight. Take the first left - the community center is the first building on the left.

So that we can plan accordingly, please contact Tracy Dew if you and/or your family members are interested in attending. Thanks so much!
